More than just “okay”, Okanagan Falls, or OK Falls sits at the southernmost tip of Skaha Lake. Although the falls the city was originally known for have since dried up, that doesn’t stop residents and tourist alike from enjoying some of the warmest lake waters in Canada. Choosing where to live in OK Falls comes down to deciding whether you prefer beaches, bluffs, or something in-between.
OK Falls is a relatively quiet community although the wealth of summer activities frequently attracts many tourists. The mixture of terrain and beaches in the community are perfect for enjoying the sights or getting exercise. Plenty of local orchards also mean you can get both quality food and support the local community at the same time. Plus, a short drive puts you within reach of all the amenities Penticton offers for better times and experiences.
Because of the many bluffs around OK Falls, rock climbing is a popular activity for the area. The majority of routes are for sport climbing, but there are several that offer traditional rock climbing as well. Each offers their own challenge and stunning views at the end. Notable climbing walls you have to try include Fortress, Red Tail, Doctor’s Wall, The Great White Wall, and The Grand Canyon.
Summer isn’t the only season you can enjoy at OK Falls. Apex mountain is less than an hour’s drive away. The ski resort offers the classic champagne powder you know and love in the Okanagan. Explore the many trails for all levels of skiers or snowboarders the mountain offers and discover your favourite.
Explore the wilderness with some of the best camping spots in the Okanagan. You can have fun on land or in the sparkling waters of the lake. Speaking of the lake, Skaha Lake offers some excellent fishing, and the amount of wildlife means the area is perfect for birdwatchers and nature studies.
Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Gris are some of the most popular wines made at OK Falls, but you can find many more in the region. The local vineyards offer wine-tasting and excellent event venues as well. Liquidity Wines, Meyer Family Vineyards, and Synchromesh Wines are all stops you need to make on your wine tour. Live in Peachland
Peachland is a small community, but one that benefits from some of the best weather in the Okanagan. Due to its proximity to one of the widest sections of the lake, it gets warmer winters and cooler summers compared to other locations making it very comfortable year-round. Deciding on where to live in Peachland primarily depends on how close you’d like to live to the lake versus getting stunning views from higher up the mountain. A close-knit community, Peachland has many parks to enjoy the scenery and good weather. Other opportunities to get outside include many trails and close-by amenities of Kelowna and Summerland while still being distant enough to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busier cities. If you’re looking to live in one of the gated communities in Peachland or new homes or developments you can expect a quieter, laid-back lifestyle to be the norm.Activities in Peachland
[gallery columns="4" size="medium" link="none" ids="271,272,273,274"] Although Peachland doesn’t have the countless activities of other nearby cities, there are still plenty to enjoy, explore, and appreciate. For instance, it wouldn’t be a city in the Okanagan if it didn’t have some notable wineries to speak of! First Estate, Hainle, and Fitzpatrick wineries all offer their own unique wines you can experience at your leisure surrounded by the natural beauty of the Okanagan. Because beaches in Peachland are typically quieter as well, you can often enjoy them more frequently without the worry of having to find both a parking spot and place to sit on the beach. Step across the road to check out some of the local markets or orchards nearby too. Gorgeous hikes are available at any time to discover. Hardy falls and Stairway to Heaven are two of the most popular ones that deliver some amazing sights and can be a great workout as well. Peachland offers many casual activities to enjoy, but if you’re looking to expand out your options, many of the nearby cities are less than an hour’s drive away to check out and shop in. The relatively small size of the city offers many opportunities to get to know people and make friends, especially in gated communities in Summerland. However, Summerland is large enough that amenities are never more than a few minutes away. Deciding where to live in Summerland is a matter of picking how far away you’d like to be from the hustle and bustle of the city, versus living close to all the aspects of daily living you’d like to enjoy.Activities in Summerland
